Re-Activating Urban Space
http://“Humanity has just crossed a major landmark in its history with the majority of people now living in cities. …as population grows, major innovation cycles must be generated at a continually accelerating rate to sustain growth and avoid stagnation or collapse.” (Bettencourt, 2007) Innovation in architecture must address metrics for buildings in urban areas such as: heating and cooling load, pedestrian comfort, daylight availability, etc. This project aims to address how underutilized objects and spaces in the urban environment can be re-activated to improve urban performance as measured by a combination of the applicable aforementioned metrics.
